Volvo Scheduled Maintenance on Leased SC90
This may sound really stupid and I will admit I am naive about these things. We have a leased Volvo XC90 2008. We have always taken it to the dealer for the scheduled maintenance. It currently has 26k miles on it and the scheduled maintenance light came on the dash. I lost my job and would really like to take it somewhere other than the dealership for the tune-up....Can I take my car to any garage and have the scheduled maintenance done? I know it would probably save me 100's of dollars if I could.
Any advice would be most appreciated. Thanks for this forum too.

I have faced the same issue on my 2007 S80. Possibly where you live there may be a European/ Volvo specialist who may be able to reset the service light, but here (small market Roanoke, VA) 2 euro specialists have not been able to reset the service minder. So not wanting to look at the message light I bite the bullet and go to the dealer. I find it borderline criminal that the vehicles owners manual does not state a simple way to reset the service minder without a trip to the dealer. Every other vehicle From all 3 continents I have ever owned has included this in the owners manual. My buddy with a MB ML has the same issue. Maybe its a new trend
You should check the terms of your lease. almost any auto service center should be able to service the vehicle, but only the volvo dealer will be able to reset the light. if you have proof of service, most volvo shops will reset the light. you can check the maintenance schedule here: http://www.volvocars.com/us/top/comm...yourvolvo.aspx
Resetting the light is very easy to do by yourself. Scheduled maintance is somewhat important since the dealership has a special stamp that they put in your maintance book and initial it. This can be very important when you go to trade it in or sell it. If you are strapped, just do oil changes every 3500-4000 miles with SYNTHETIC and visit the dealership every 15k miles. I have seen too many fools change their oil with conventional every 7500 or so miles and the car ALWAYS ends up in our shop with a sludged up oil pan, clogged oil pick up tube, and/or bad turbo seals causing oil to leak in the exhaust and very bad smoking.

It is NOT complicated because I do it every day. It does take a little know how though and pressing the button on the stalk is wrong. You must use the trip reset button on the gauge cluster. Read and print the steps below and give it a shot. I bet you got it this time!
Follow these steps for the new key/push button start vehicles.
1) insert key fully.
2) Tap "start" once WITHOUT touching the brake pedal.
3) Once the D.I.M. (gauge cluster) lights up in accessory position, press and hold the trip reset button on the gauge cluster.
4) Press and hold the "start" button until the car fully lights up/ignition ON but not starting the engine. Release the start button but remain holding the trip reset button on the gauge cluster. (This means, do NOT touch the brake pedal, EVER!)
5) After 10 seconds or more, the "!" will flash. Release the trip button on the D.I.M. Turn off the ignition, remove the key.
Now start the car and it will be reset. Do the procedure with doors closed. Repeat till you get it right. It took the techs at my shop a few times till they got it. Some still dont.
