Came across a 2015 v60 t5 2.0t in good shape other than no compression on number 3 cylinder. Has around 180k miles. She wants 5500 which I think is a little high since it will either new pistons rings and maybe valves or new engine. What would be a good price to offer?

KBB.com thinks a pretty nice 16 v60 with 180k miles is worth about $7000.

A car with hopefully just a melted valve and new pistons while you are there - might need $5000-$6000 retail in repairs - (IF the engine is repairable)

That makes a reasonable offer to be about $1000. How about she gives you the car, you get it fixed and then give her what's left of the $7000 that it would take to buy a pretty nice one that needed very little?

So - the current owner will probably just look for someone not as wise to pay too much for a broken car. And possibly end up (after not finding any buyers) reducing the price. Do they have something else to drive?

Yeah I figured I Would be about 2k in parts if the motor was rebuildable not including my time obviously and about 3-3500k for a junk yard motor that was a 17 model year with updated pistons. Far as I know they have another Vehicle to drive. I don't think they understand the value or like you said hope someone who isn't to wise to come around and buy it cause they said no low ball offers in the comments. I asked how flexible they were price and they said make a offer. So I thought I get more opinions on it before offering. I'm pretty sure they wont take 1k lol. I know the car market is still kind of messed up.

BTW - a 2015 - a nine year old car - with 180k -

That's 20,000 miles a year.

Rode hard and put up wet.

There's no 15 v60 on autotrader for sale with that many miles. (in the US)
