What's the service schedule AFTER 150,000 miles? Go back to 7,500?

Default What's the service schedule AFTER 150,000 miles? Go back to 7,500?

My 2010 XC 70 is nearing its 150K mile mark. If your service manual is like mine, it cites all service requirements in 7,500 mile increments up to 150,000 miles . My question is, what service is recommended at the 157,500 mile mark and thereafter? Should I go back to the beginning and start with the first service needs at 7,500 miles? Or start at some other previous mark? Thanks.

To answer your question - Yes - However Many cars have had PCV or other related oil problems using that 7500 mile schedule and conventional oil. Do you use full synthetic oil? Shortly after 2010 Volvo changed the schedule to 10k miles between oil changes using full synthetic oil. Many would suggest that 10k is too long -

Personally I would use full synthetic every 5-7500 miles.

I would also recommend using a premium brand high mileage synthetic. These formulas add seal softeners which help older engines from getting weepy (my experience is these products actually do work - I used them on both my 850T and S40 ). As to the calendar, You will see specific events recurring at set mileage intervals ie 7.5K for oil, so you can extrapolate to what your next service is. A 150K and the 180K would have all the 30K events, the 157 and 165K gets 7.5K events etc with the 165K getting any 15K events... There's other things that Volvo doesnt spec out but are best practices - PCV should be done even 100K (some say even sooner), things like coolant and brake fluid should be flushed ever so often - Ive seen 2 to 5 years from various sources and then there's the big debate on transmission flushes - everything from never to 50K, (I'm in the 100K camp ).

Yes, at 253,000 km, you simply restart the periodic maintenance cycle from the beginning. Manufacturer maintenance plans (like the one on the 2010 XC70) are cyclical, usually every 12,000 km or 1 year, whichever comes first.

Thanks Hoonk. I've always used conventional oil in my 2010, and at this point my dealer recommends sticking with that.. There are no leaks, but he says he's afraid to tempt those 16 year old seals with the more slippery synthetic stuff. It does burn about a quart every 750 - 1000 miles, so I do wonder if synthetic would help that a bit. Anyway, thanks for answering the mileage/service question.

...and maybe replacing the PCV valve would help with the blow-by, which is causing the oil consumption. That's a great suggestion from both of you. Thanks!
