XC70 Engine noise

XC70 Engine noise
I have a 2008 XC70. As the engine hits 1000 RPM (+/- 100 RPM) I get a low airy whistle. Local dealer techs hear but cannot identify. Said they heard same on two XC70's new on lot. It is a new sound to them. Area Volvo Rep feels it is a "nature of the beast". Any ideas?

I wonder how loud the noise is. If it is whistling, most likely it is from the induction system. Since your XC70 is new, I can only assume someone at the final assembly point forgot to tighten a clamp on an induction hose, or it could also be from serpentine accessory drive belt. Visually inspect the induction hoses to see if there's something loose.
