Default 2005 S40 T5 Exhaust?

Hey guys,
I have a 2005 S40 T5 FWD and I am wondering what I could do to make it louder but for cheap. What would happen if I took the exhaust off?

Thanks!

1. Don't take your exhaust off.

2. You would loose power.

3. It would be illegal.

4. It would be ungodly loud.

For more sound have an upgraded catback system either made or buy a prefabbed system. 2.5" mandrel bent catback system to a free flowing straight through design muffler such as a BORLA or Magnaflow if you decide to go the custom route. Also a bigger downpipe will give you added power and sound as well. 3" mandrel bent downpipe will do the trick.

ok, so would it hurt anything if I just took the exhaust off for a minute just to see how loud it would be? I DEFINATELLY don't want to leave it off.

have to agree with s70 on this...nobody in there right mind just takes an exhaust off to here loudness...lol. If you want more sound and power out of any car you need to upgrade your exhaust. What kind of budget are you aiming around?

Then you bought the wrong car.

You might be able to have a local muffler shop make you one for around that price but a prefabbed one don't bet on it.

Because currently EuroSportTuning (EST) is running an exhaust sale.

1. http://www.eurosporttuning.ca/Mercha...=VL-S40-V50-en

Regular Price: $749.95
Sale Price:$599.00

2. Viva Performance (VP)
http://www.vivaperformance.com/catal...roducts_id=409

Not on sale currently and probably wont ever be on sale.

Price: $729.99

Anything aftermarket for Volvo is exspensive. Look into having a local muffler shop create you a 2.5" mandrel bent catback system with a free flowing muffler such as a Magnaflow or BORLA. Also the cost could be greatly decresed most likely if you had them use like lets say Aluminized Steel instead of SS.

I think you guys got the wrong idea here, he's not asking how to give the car 15+ horsepower and give it a growl, he just wants to give the car a growl.

So my suggestion is to just go to a local muffler shop and remove the stock muffler and put a chambered performance muffler or straight through muffler in it's place. Shouldn't cost more than $150-$250 installed depending on what you get. Make sure to ask for a loud/throaty sounding muffler.

EDIT:
note to self: "way to go genius! This is a 9month old thread..." lol

It doesn't matter... Removing an exhaust system just to hear it louder isn't something you do PERIOD.

i took the muffler off a 1999 buick lesabre for my brother. the thing has a 3.8 v6 and in lower rpms around 1500-1900 it has a deep bass tone like a v8. it idles like a diesel pickup. anything higher than a 4000 rpm and i let off the gas i'll get a nasty popping backfire. the thing was the old family car so we really never cared about it and the thing is the coolest ghetto granny car ever.
but i wouldnt do that to a 2005 working volvo. the buick was a totall POS that was falling apart anyway. i put a cheap conical filter right on the throttle body and painted racing stripes on it. dont tear up your volvo exhaust
