S40 2004.5+
How restrictive are the exhaust system in these cars?
I just called up the dealership and our new 2007 MY08 S40 T5 AWD is arriving down under in about a weeks time.
Should be taking delivery in around 2 weeks time
getting extremely excited
Planning on getting a custom ECU tune to start things off and a K&N Typhoon.
Anyone know the maximum flow of these exhaust systems? i'm looking for no more than 270 horsers
at the crank. Do these exhaust system consist of 2 cats?
Cheers

Oh yeah by the way its an automatic....I know most people will say why get an auto over a manuel
but i find the automatic is quicker around the streets. Leave the manual for the track
Anyone got any information on the current 5 speed automatics? anyone know the figures on how much
power/torque these babies can handle safely without modifying it? as my previous post say 250-270
should be safe?

Should hold around 350-400 Horses safetly.
ECU upgrade and intake are great. Why not upgrade the exahust system as well?
I would intake and exhaust before an ECU upgrade. As the ECU upgrade will take into effect your mods and if you do it first and then your intake and exhaust it wont fully take advantage of the potential power.
-Downpipe (EuroSportTuning (EST) makes one, Viva Performance also sells one, Or you can go custom and have a local muffler shop make you one and if you go this route go 3" mandrel bent.)
-Catback EuroSportTuning (EST) makes one, Viva Performance has one but no info so contact them about it also going custom is an option and since your not upgrading your turbo 2.5" mandrel bent with a Free Flowing Straight Through design muffler like BORLA or Magnaflow will work.
-Intake (K&N Typhoon like you said and also EST makes a kit too)
-ECU Upgrade (Who do you plan to go with? IPD USA, RICA, BSR, Upsolute, SpeedTuning USA, Inmotion?) IPD USA, RICA, BSR most exspensive tunes but have the most R&D in their products. Upsolute, SpeedTuning USA and Inmotion less exspensive tunes good bang for the buck but will run RICH.
That is the order I would do things in.
