Hi all, I have a 2005 V70 wagon with the ABS light on constantly, from when you turn on the ignition. It goes out momentarily and comes on again. I have scanned the car and found code P0500 WSS circuit A. I have just bought it and the previous owner had a replacement module fitted (S/Hand) and it did nothing.
I have disconnected the wheel speed sensors under the bonnet and probed the pins while i rotated the wheels but i got no signal with a multi meter on a/c voltage setting.
I removed all four sensors and found them to be only very very slightly magnetic, only just holds up a pin, in my experience all abs sensors are substantially magnetic to the point where you can hold up a spanner almost.
I have checked for Batt voltage at the two large pins and ground on the opposite two large pins in the abs module plug,I have continuity from the sensor plugs to the pins on the module plug but there are only two other pins on the whole plug that have 2.48v the rest have nothing.
I cant imagine that all four sensors are faulty so i would appreciate any suggestions or if someone could point me in the direction of an abs wiring diagram or pinout data for the module plug that would be amazing.

Where to start -

Abs modules are coded to the VIN of each car. Used modules generally will not work, unless they are recoded and there is no mechanism for VIDA to be able to recode/reprogram a USED part. I trust you know what VIDA is - if you had VIDA and a dice unit, or a compatible quality scan tool, you would be able to easily monitor each wheel speed sensor (with live data) to determine if they were the problem in a matter of a few minutes.

Not sure where you are but in the south ( US Georgia) my shop saw 1 bad wheel sensor from whenever abs was first installed in Volvos (1987?) until 2019. That sensor had visibly damaged wiring. So I doubt if you have a bad wheel sensor.

It is very common for the ABS control unit to have problems. My shop has replaced hundreds of bad ABS control units over the years, most for wheel sensor signal codes. There are many "rebuilders" but only a few can program an ABS unit to work in your car. Companies such as xemodex can solve your ABS control unit woes if needed. and a link to their website - they may be expensive but of the hundreds of control units I shipped to them and they fixed - They had a 100% success rate. The part would arrive fixed after a day or two and were completely plug and play.

Until rebuilders started their service - you had to buy a new ABS module from Volvo, and buy a VIDA subscription to have the new module programmed (if you had an account with Volvo and a DICE unit) - 10 years ago that was a $1500 US fix, when the modules were $1135, and labor was $84 an hour. Prices have changed, I think a new one for your car is about $500 US, but would need a download using VIDA to make it work.

That is the factory service manual - it has everything you need to diagnose your car, a complete one should have wiring diagrams, pin outs, complete parts catalog, diagnostic suggestion for codes and can monitor live data and retrieve/erase codes with a DICE unit. Cloned Dice units cost less than $100 in the US.

I still don't have specific pin out values but at least i can see which components feed into the abs module and i can check continuity through the wires following the colours
