2006 Volvo XC70 - shock absorbers
I have an 2006 XC70 which has done over 320 000 km. The front and rear electronically controlled shocks are leaking and need replacement. They have never been changed out before. Can I replace the originals with standard shock absorbers and by-pass the Four-C suspension system? And what std. shocks would fit? For a car this old, but which still runs well in all, I don't want to go to the expense of fancy shocks if standard will work. Your advice will be much appreciated.

I am in the same boat and need to change. Four-C are super expensive.
Thanks.

I plan to remove the rear four-c shocks and replace with regular ones. Mine is 2006 XC70 in Canada. Will replace with Sachs shock 30760056 and Lesjofors coil spring heavy duty 4295844.
If anyone has any more tips, please share.
This is what I have found so far on how to delete four-c:

In the same thread on page 17:
"Just want to report a success with 4C disable. This is the family hauler so nothing special performance-wise. At 150k km 3 of the 4 4C shocks were leaking oil and had zero gas pressure left. Replaced them with regular Sachs shocks/struts all around. Cut the actuators out of each shock/strut with a cutoff wheel in my angle grinder. Sealed them up with bicycle inner tube/nylon tie straps and plugged them back in. Car drives like a regular XC70 now (with new shocks) and no "4C Service Required" error!
Thanks for all the work that went into this."
