99 v70xz
I have already introduced myself in the xc forum, but i figure i might as well make it formal... My first car was this:
I built this car when i was 19... vj20 turbo, fmic, hks bov, custom bent 3" exhaust, jdm ecu... it ran 14.2@101 all night long on crappy all seasons on heavy wheels (open diff too... 2.4 60' times suck... thus the reason for my4wd pro) on 22" slicks i ran a 13.7@ 98 all night long (well until i sent an axle to car part heaven).
my next car was just a filler car i picked up to drive while i dismantled the above escort before my new at the time wife and I went up to alaska for a short term job opportunity. This vehicle was sold to my parents for one of my sisters:
That protege was REALLY clean after i evacuated the smoke smell... i also needed to replace a headlight, and the front bumper as the previous owner had atraier hitchpoke straight through the bumper damaging the plastic mount for the headlight... this was the final result (it also needed a head gasket) 750 dollars from no car to getting this home and repairing... not bad in my book.
NOW to my traction problem solution...
notice the 4wd on the fender currently housing a nearly dead 1.8l sohc motor and a 4wd 5 speed transmission (4wd not awd because the center diff is lockable but open)... the jdm transmission is an awd with a viscous center diff and in this cars future for sure. The motor from my escort will be going in here.
** the wifes truck is the ranger in the background... runs great NO problems ever... cannot complain!**
now to the volvo content (finally eh?). I just picked this up with the wife over the weekend so now we have 3 cars and i can lay the protege to rest while it recieves another cam and a turbo
5200 dollars and a 5 hr round trip later and this is sitting in our driveway. I personally feel like we stole it, i felt bad while we were doing the paperwork. This is the nicest used car i have seen for the age and the price... EVER! the trans and bevel gears were just replaced under 5k ago (w/ papers to proove), while there is a bad sensor on the trans (range sensor), which puts it into limp mode when i drop it below drive... i never do but my father in law did on his test drive. Haha that was stressful... drive it all the way home no issues then 3 minutes after he gets behind the seat its driving like crap with the dash blinking and glowing at him). Im still good friends with my h/s auto teacher and have a hookup on a snapon scantool [sm=shades.gif]so i was able to get that sensor info for free.99 and was able to clear the codes. I love this car... ifi didnt have a car in the garage already this would probably have some ipd goodies thrown at it with the quickness (grill, ecu, dual tip exhuast and id love some pegasus wheels) BUT i do already have a project which recieves the good chunk of the budget maybe when the pro is spoolin ill throw some money at this.

RE: 99 v70xz
thanks guys... I know they are nothing special as my total build sheet still costed a 10th of a new volvo... the turbo, manifold, cams, intake manifold, injectors, ecu, are all from a jdm mazda gtx. im in the process of haveing a machine shop buddy see what he can do about making me an adaptor for a tubular manifold i have so i can run my smaller turbo for the time being (and have the external wastegate, i HATE boost creep). When money allows the car will be converted to standalone and the needed hardware to accomidate my turbonetics t3/t4 sitting on the shelf.
Ive considered converting the 4wd to RWD for fun... the miata trans bolts up to my motor, i just need to get a junker trans and set everything up in there to see how it all fits. Not just for fun though i dont want to be having the pro sitting forever while im waiting for a deciently priced gtx trans to pop up forsale after i destroy my weak stocker. miata drivetrain i can go to the local j/y and get a trans.
btw everyone at work calls me a yuppie now, i tell them if me liking to sit on heated leather seats in the cold or have a sunroof and a really pretty nice sound system for 5k makes me a yuppie... im the biggest tree huggin hippin they have seen! I love these cars!
