I recently had an incident where my timing belt broke on my 2002 XC70. I bought the car second hand - I'm the second owner. The service book is in order. As such, the timing belt was replaced as per its schedule. However, it broke at 169,000 ks. I contacted the Volvo service center (Comet Automotive in Brisbane) who replaced the belt. The belt used was an aftermarket part. They stated it is either the previous owner did not want to spend too much for the replacement; hence, used an aftermarket part or the part used was not the one they replaced as they use genuine/correct parts.
I am not sure what to do but take the car to a Volvo mechanic for repair and it is going to cost me $3,000 for the repair.
What are my rights regarding this kind of incident? Please help.
