Default Another Newbie! 2006 S60

Hi All!

So glad I found this forum. I have been up for hours trying to decide whether to take my S60 to the dealer for the 15k maintenance. They're quoting $300 for an oil change w/fluid check, tire rotation and filter changes..?? Suffering from sticker shock.. My husband wants to attempt the change himself. I'm actually used to changing my own oil and doing the regular maintenance (older models, Ford and Honda) but this is a different game. Sorry for rambling. I posted a question in the S60 forum.

Anyways, I purchased my Volvo new in 2006 and I love it. I want to take care of it but just don't want to be ripped off

Hi Beth,

So glad you found this forum.

Welcome, and I hope it would be of some help for you & your hubby.

That is sick[sm=sick.gif].

I am not sure how you change oil on the S60, as I'm an 850 driver but I believe it is similar. I just did a parts search and the filter on S60seems to beof separate cartridge-type, meaning you probably need the element part of it and the outer shell is re-usable. Check for yourself at (I searched for 2.5T and if your S60 isn't 2.5T, adjust the model info):

You twoneed to have metric tools, which you already have from working on Honda. Also, buy some Torx bits because you will need them.

Lastly, check for recalls and if they haven't been done, have them done at a dealer. Recall items are fixed by the dealers, free of charge to customers:

Best of luck to you,

JPN

Welcome. The oil and filter changes are not that hard. I have a local shop change my oil, rotate tires etc. A heck of a lot cheaper than $300.
