Default Brakes

Hello,, first time here, I have a 2001 S40. Had quite a few things done to it but now it is making a lot of noise when I brake. I have a guy that is going to work on it tomorrow. Would anyone be able to recommend type of brakes or what all I should replace , it is in the front wheels. Thank you so much for your help.

Can't really tell you if its front or rear - you'd have to look at the disks to see if there are any signs of wear (ie deep grooves). As far as the type of brakes go, you should expect to get new rotors (noise means metal on metal so the rotors are likely scored). As far as pads go, it depends on your needs. Do you drive mostly in town or highway? do you drive aggressively? OEM (factory) pads are organic and give the best feel for in town driving. Bosch sells a nice set of organic pads at a good price. Next is semi-metallic which resist fade (ie high speed braking) and produce less brake dust but are firmer at low speeds. Finally you have ceramic pads which are supposed to be even lower dust. Personally I've done all three on my s40 and 850 and I'm back to OEM organics (Bosch on the s40, Genuine Volvo on the 850) for the best feel and overall performance.
