Default Is this car slow or are there problems

Hello

I just received a 2000 S80 2.9 as a company car. As you can tell, I pretty low on the totum poll, but a free car is a free car.

This car seems slow to me. At least the acceleration. It can move on the highway. It is getting on the highway that is my problem.
The company says they have kept up with the maintenance. It has 73,000 miles on it. I did notice that it is supposed to run on premium gas, but the last drivers have been putting in regular. Can that be the problem.

Thank you in advance
Jim

Try putting in a fuel injection cleaner when you have a 1/4 of a tank left and see if it helps.

Thanks, I will try some cleaner and higher octain gas. Does a bad knock sensor trigger a check engine light or is there a ghost code for it. On my 99 Maxima, that is what happens for a bad knock sensor. And a bad knock sensor will retard the timing, right?

Nice Mustang. I had an 88 GT with a few mods, underdrive pullies, K&N filter, air silencer removed, advanced timing and then added a 355 rearend. The 373 was too much for my highway driving. The only problem was that it was an automatic.

A knock sensor will set a code.

I have a ported Stock intake,CAI(Home made)Dropped about 2 inches,APC racing seats and about $3000.00 of stereo in the trunk.

Many people have been having the same acceleration problems with the 2.9 The car is heavy and the engine is not as powerful as that in the T6. The S80 2.9 only produced 194 bhp and because of the low torque output, the car seems slow and laggy.

My 99 Maxima is rated at 190 bhp and it feels really fast compared to the S80. I know the S80 is heavier, but that much. The Gearing probably has more to do with it.

I do not think the gas should have affected the car to such an extreme extent. If it really accelerates poorly, you may want to get it checked out by a mechanic. The car may need a tune-up, thorough cleaning, or a simple injection cleaning. Using 91 Shell V-Power can also be helpful.

Is an S80 a car that you really have to push the pedal? I've always felt that the 240's runs better than they feel like, because once you really step on it, they do ok, otherwise they feel terribly slow - not that they are overloaded with horsepower anyway....

The Non-turbo's you pretty much have to push the pedal and they will go pretty good. Thats the electronic throttle setup for you.Slow to respond and have to push it pretty hard to go.
