Hello to everyone. I bought a 1987 240dl wagon on a whim last weekend that I saw on Craig's List. It was owned by a college student that attends Wayne State University in Detroit. Somebody had smashed out the left quarter window to steal things in the car and had stolen the catalytic convertor for scrap.He decided to get rid of the car and I bought it. The engine and transmission , brakes and steering are all good. It doesnt have much rust on it either.It does of course need many, many minor things done to it.I was pleasantly suprised to see all the parts available online.I ordered some things that will be coming in the mail. Unfortunately I didnt find VLVworld.com until I had already ordered a few things. I ordered rotor,distributor cap,air and oil filters ,and a front turn signal from VLVworld and I had them the next day and installed those parts right away. I had already ordered a driver door handle, rear view mirror,and a neutral safety switch elsewhere. I will have to wait for that stuff to arrive. Saturday I will go to a junkyard and hope to find the quarter window,a blue drivers seat , and rear door trim. I may not be able to find a window that easy.Does anyone out there know of a source to buy one from? I have always been interested in Volvo's but have never had one. Any info to help guide me would be welcomed. I have previously restored both a 1974 Dodge 3/4 ton pick up and a 1993 Chevy silvarado 1/2 ton pu from boneyard condition to decent looking daily driving condition (not to show piece quality) I intend to do the same with this car although my wife and two grown sons are to my suprise all mortified at my choice of a Volvo.When I was in the Army 35 years ago a friend of mine had a Volvo and I have held them in high regard ever since.The right rear tail light on my car is missing the clear lens piece over the backup light.I hate to think of replacing the whole tail light for that little lens. Maybe somebody out there has a bad tail light with a good lens.That's probably enough rambling from a newbie. Dale

Welcome to the forum, I hope you find it helpful & enjoyable.

As I'm an 850 driver, I'm not privy to 240s. Volvos have some chronic problems (as any mfg's have them), but many are within the capability of DIYers.

I'm not sure if 240 comes with timing belt or chain. If it's the belt, that may be the first thing I would make sure.

Please visit the 240 forum; people there have much better knowledge on 240 than I do and you'll receive accurate replies.
