Hello from bay area
Bought my Volvo a couple years ago, 2006 C70 with 43K miles. Really love the car, and seemed to perform extremely well when I bought it, but have been running into a lot of problems lately. Cracked rim and wheel hub replacement (I blame both of these on Cali roads, although cracked rim seems to be a common problem). The bigger problem however probably started a few months ago, alternator died which was pretty costly to replace (but I did have it done). Now, noticed a slight rubber burning smell on trip to tahoe, thought it was something random as it only was there for a little while....on a drive to work a week later got a loud knocking noise coming from passenger side of engine. Looked into it, and the belt around the alternator is totally freyed out on one side, and looked to be slightly off the guide. I'm only at 68K miles and think it would be a good idea to replace timing belt, serpentine belt, water pump, and tensioners. But I'm wondering what the chance is that the engine has been damaged and will need costly repair? (Despite the loud noise, engine seemed to be working fine but I haven't driven the car since noticing the belt). Any advice would be greatly appreciated
