Default Hello From los Angeles

Hi a friend of mine has me very seriously considering a 1st or 2nd Gen. V70 "R" or a T5.

Yet, I want something able to tow my 1,800 lb boat trailer combo, Lets just round it off to 2,000 lbs & then there the aero drag..

I've been led to believe that I should avoid the low Pressure turbo & go with the High Pressure Turbo, yet still need to keep in mind how these were not meant as tow rigs.

It would only be once in a great while, I just wanna know it can & will do ok at it.

What are the best & worst years when it comes to these?
I'm on a budget, so please keep that in mind.

I love the look of these things & am looking forward to buying my 1st Volvo.

Not sure what are great years, many say '94 - '98 then '03 - '07.

The LPT's are fine. Great low end torque. If I was going to tow more than 50 per month I would install a transmission cooler. No issues other than that.

From what I understand The V70's 1st Gen started in 1997-till 2000.
Then the 2nd Gen was from 2000 to 2007?

& so... dont know anything about a '94 through '96 V70? I think they were called 850's then?

I'm thinking about an "R" or "T5"

For towing, I'm told I'd be best off with no turbo, because of issues of towing with the turbo constantly pushing in attempts to keep the power up.

Yet I doubt I'd be happy with a NA version.

Now a Diesel, I wish was available in the USA, I'd jump on that in a second!
