Hi!
My daughter's 1999 VW Golf has just hammered the final (of many) nail in it's coffin today, by blowing the ECU!
So, I spoke to a friend who deals in used cars, and sorted her out with a 1993 Volvo 940 2.3!
The car has 3 months MOT, 8 months TAX, and no service history!
But for £200 who cares!
It steers... Sort of... brakes... Sort of... And goes... Sort of!
Alright, it needs a bit of TLC, but it is driveable!
The engine has 202,000 miles on the clock, and had its last service at 179,000 miles... I'm sure fresh oil and filters will make up for it though.
After all, it is a Volvo!
Over 20,000 miles on the same oil has taken its toll though, the idle is rough, the power is low, and the MPG is in the low twenties!
But still, it is 100% better than her old VW!
Here is what I plan on doing to the car tomorrow:
Full service
Change tyres for brand new Michelin Energy Savers
Replace rear section of exhaust
Fix broken clock
Clean grounds on starter motor (occasionally won't engage)
Change track rod ends (a lot of play in steering)
All together it should cost around £300 for fixing it up, and adding that to the £200 for the vehicle, that is £500 for a good reliable Volvo!
Not bad, considering her 1999 VW Golf TDi cost £1,200 new a few months ago, and it is now worth about £400!
