I joined my family...
My family has been driving Volvo since 1982 and I finally bought one myself. I got a great deal on a 2007 s40. My frustration has been finding maintenance information on it. This forum helps, but there are a couple things haunting me right now. I am a do it yourselfer which is most of the challenge.
1.) Are there any special considerations when doing the brakes on these or is it just like any other disk brake system?
2.) How often do I replace spark plugs and timing belt?
3.) What is the best resource for how to with pictures?
4.) I am about to change the oil for the first time. Does the canister unscrew counterclockwise or clockwise like the arrow indicates?
5.) Any other tips would be appreciated!

Welcome to the forum.
1. Nothing special, other than Volvo does not recommend turning rotors as they will invariably warp if turned. Pads: I use the Akebono Euro Ceramic pad. Stops you fine and NO dust.
2. Spark plugs as needed. Timing belt: Volvo recommends every 105K. Most owners on this forum do it around every 75K.
3. I think there is a sticky in the sights and sounds forum that will lead you through this.
4. Righty tighty lefty loosey.
5. Keep up with regular maintenance. . . religiously!
