Default I see a Wagon in my future

Hi all,
The name is Max. I don't have a Volvo yet but that's what I'm buying next. My first car was 1992 Ford Ranger, I loved it to death, I was a regular on a site for that(TRS.com) Alas, I had to sell it because I got my current car, a 1999 Ford Escort, from my sister who bought a brand new 2011 Ford Fiesta, and there was no room in the driveway for 5 fords...yes, my family is a Ford family. The escort is not my cup of tea though, I hate the size, being 6'3" and 220lbs, it looks funny, and it can't carry anything, and its just plain uncool. so I'm gonna sell it and by a wagon, because nothing is cooler than a wagon. I always heard that Volvo's are really reliable, safe, and last forever and the seem to be one of those die hard brands where you get hooked for life. My friend had a Volvo 850 sedan and that was great car, but I want RWD. My budget is $2,000. I love the cube-like early 90's styling, I need something fuel efficient, reliable, it has to be able tow a little, and it has to be able to carry all my band's stuff. Also it needs to be a road trippable car, because I live life on what way the wind blows that day, most importantly I want something out of the ordinary, because, I'm not your normal cookie. A Volvo 740/940 wagon fits that bill.

Looking forward to being apart of this great Volvo lifestyle

I got a couple questions...cause I'm starting to look and drive, and hopefully buy, some in the upcoming weeks.

How are Volvo's on insurance?

Turbo or non-turbo? Being a 18 year old boy, is the power increase worth the cost of higher insurance?

How are the auto trannies, strength/reliablility wise? I do plan on getting a tranny cooler

Is there anything specific to look out for when looking at 740/940 wagons? Common problems?

Welcome to the forum.

Very safe so insurance would be cheaper, other than the fact that you're an 18 year old male. The insurance will be expensive.

Non turbo. The last thing an 18 year old male needs is a turbo engine.

If the transmission hasn't been abused, then you should be OK.

That is exactly what I figured, but does the power increase make it worth it? I do need to tow a john boat and a trailer every once in a while, so I don't want to get some gutless N/A, not saying it is cause I've never driven one, and find out I needed the extra power of the turbo.

My friend's Volvo was a 1995 850 turbo, real fun car to drive.
