Default Just bought a fixer-upper

Hi everyone. I just bought an unlicensed damaged 2003 S40t from a salvage auction for au$225. Seems ok apart from some “light” front damage. Gives me something to do on my days off. That, or I just felt I needed a challenge! I’m hoping these forums will come in handy!

Looks like an easy repair. You can buy everything that you need on eBay.

Hopefully. Did a little research before I bid on the auction. Already ordered some parts. Just gotta fix what sounds like an exhaust manifold leak (can hear pfft pfft kinda noises at startup, until it warms up a bit), and previous owner appears to have bypassed the heater core. Oh, and they somehow put the fan belt upside down (ribs facing wrong way). Still trying to figure out how they managed that!

I just did the conversion. You paid the equivalent of $167 US dollars. Scrap brings more here because the value of the catalytic converter is about $100.

I think that you have an awesome deal there!

Just a bit of an update... after the car was sitting for a year, due to me having no time or energy cos of extra shifts at work, thanks to a co-worker on sick leave for 14 months, after repeatedly falling asleep at work, and failing several drug tests. I basically lost interest, so called a scrap place, and they paid me AU$200 and towed it away. A few months ago, I bought a 2001 XC70 from the same salvage auctions. This one only had some side damage and only cost me AU$400. Only sat for about 6 months before I sorted it out. Basically needed minor stuff (seat leaver, interior door handle, glove box strut thingy, steering rack boot clamp and 1 lower ball joint). Sorted them out and it passed inspection & is now registered. Beautiful to drive but it has strong smell (upholstery type smell, not mould or something). Investing in an ozone generator as I’ve heard they’re supposed to be effective. Unless someone knows what the smell could be and how to get rid of it?
