Default My 2012 XC70 lost power while doing 55 mph

I was driving, normally dont have the chance to bring it to 55, but all of a sudden it was loosing power, something flashed on the screen once. I pulled over to a side road and the car cut off. I waited a few minutes, trying to figure out what to do, when I tried the key again and the car started. The check engine light is on. I was about 10 miles from home, so just kept driving ,150,000 on motor. love my car. What could be wrong? It is parked now at home.

A good first step would be to scan the car to see what self diagnostic trouble codes are stored.

If you want to determine if you can drive the car while waiting for a service appointment, see if your local Autozone etc rents/loans OBD2 code readers. Not too hard to scan yourself (just don't clear the codes so your tech can read them later). You will find what looks like an old school printer port under the drivers side of the dash to plug the reader into. Turn the key to position 2 (ignition on, but engine is off) and follow the prompts on the reader. Have a pencil and paper handy to write down what you find. Plan B would be to stop by your local shop - many will scan the codes for you without charge (on the assumption that they will get to do the repair if something bad or dangerous is found).
