We purchased a used (over 140K miles) 98 S70 glt last month (on 7/18) and had the emissios fail on the OBD readiness portion. We were told to drive the vehicle for a while then have it retested. Well, we drove it over 1300 miles and had it retested today (8/16) and it failed emissions again for the same reason.

The tech at a general repair shop told me that I needed to take the car to a Volvo dealer. He said that the computer is resetting every time we turn the vehicle off and turn it on. We immediately went to the local Volvo dealer's service dept and they told us that we needed to cycle the car twice so the computer can recognize all diagnostics. They handed us a brochure with instructions on how to do this.

We're about ready to follow the instructions, but wanted some additional opinions/experience.

Has anyone heard about this before? Any opinions on what we should do?

It is very possible we don't have emmissions at all here so Im not sure.
