Default NEW and confused

I am new here. What brought me here is the urge to own something different. I currently own a supercharged maxima, a Cadillac Fleetwood and a honda accord.

I am VERY confused as to the model of these cars? So far I read and it seems that the 850 is the best model to buy? Whats the difference with models and trims? I guess my budget puts me in the 1997 - 2000ish pricerange?

I have about $4500 to spend on one of these cars and I want something that I can modify for cheap and has decent aftermarket support. I would prefer a wagon but a sedan is fine. I want something roomy and comfy. It has to be manual and turbo. I want something that I can do minor upgrades and make nice power (if that exists in the volov world). It doesn't have to be a 700whp beast but a nice 400whp DD volvo wagon thats dropped and sitting on some nice wheels and looks super sexy is my goal.

Now volvo gurus can you help me?
Are these cars RWD or FWD?
I will be reading more and more.

The 850 is FWD. If you want RWD then look in to 200/700/900 series.
$4500 can get you a descent 850. You will want to start out with a turbo model. So find a 850 turbo, T5, T5-R, or R. then check out https://volvoforums.com/forum/general-volvo-chat-5/volvoforums-resources-thread-7317/ for a bunch of aftermarket sites.... Now nothing in the Volvo world is "Cheap" but it wont be as bad as say a BMW. Now for a 400hp 850, the engine would have to be built up with forged internals which can be found at RSI.
I would recommend you start out with a few simple upgrades (like ecu upgrade, 3in turbo-back exhaust, CAI, upgraded turbo...etc.) and you will love the feel of ~300hp torque steer machine.

Just for the styling I would buy a 850 turbo but I really would prefer a RWD platform.......well I guess I have to start reading up.

Yes search around this forum as well as Swedespeed and Volvospeed. you should find some nice builds and guide you to where you need to be.
Good luck and hope you find what you are looking for.

Thanks for your help man. Looks like the 850 is one of the better options.

after lots of reading I decided the Volvo that I want is either an 850 sedan or wagon or a V70 or S70...........

These seem to be the body that I am attracted to.

Opinions?
