Default New to the forum and a dilemma I hope you can help with!

I'm new to this forum and would really appreciate some advice as I search for a car. I've always absolutely loved the look of classic Volvos, but I am truly not a mechanically-minded person or, to be honest, a car person at all. Aesthetically cars don't interest me all that often, with the exception of some fantastic Volvos I've seen. My question is:

Does it make sense for a person like myself who can't perform basic repairs on his own car to buy a classic Volvo? Specifically, I'm looking at a gorgeous 1974 Volvo 164. I'm trying to justify spending 8k-10k for a car that I think looks beautiful and I know will drive beautifully, bearing in mind that I am not the type who knows how to perform upkeep on it and baby it the way it deserves.

Any life advice would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers.

I am definitely willing to learn some of the more basic forms of maintenance/repair. I would just be going into this having to learn from scratch.

Sounds like a plan. Buy a 40 year old car and use it to teach yourself automobile maintenance. Could work. My guess is the romance will fade quickly.

Welcome to the forum.

Using a Volvo isn't the most effective car to learn auto mechanics.
