Default New guy on board

Hi,
I've been lurking here for a few weeks and finally decided to join today.

I don't own a Volvo at the present time; but I soon will...assuming I can find what I want. Some of the things I want are pretty rock solid while others are rather flexible.

The "must have" things are:

Station wagon
Rear wheel drive
B-230 engine
Appearance is more important (within reason) than mechanical needs. I am good with wrenches; but I absolutely hate body work. Shredded interiors, likewise, are of no interest to me.

Overall condition of a vehicle is more important to me than a particular preference for any of the following:

Turbo or non-turbo
Automatic or manual transmission
Leather vs cloth (I prefer leather; but cloth will not be a deal breaker on the right car.)
Power options such as PDL, PW, moon roof, heated seats, etc.

I live in Georgia. Obviously, I would prefer to find a car nearby; but I am not adverse to a road trip if I find the right car.

I'll always try the search forum before asking ignorant questions; but if I should slip up, please be gentle.

850 Wagon non-turbo for the most reliability! Or an ugly (but built like a tank) 240 wagon.

Ignorant questions is how one learns and educates thy SELF. Good Luck in your search for your Volvo. Welcome!

I do like the 850 wagon; but I have pretty much ruled it out because of the FWD. My daily driver is currently a 05 Pontiac GTO; and the power of the LS2 is addictive. In the back of my mind, I can't help but think about the possibility of eventually installing a LSx engine into a Volvo wagon. Of course, the most natural candidate for that engine swap is a RWD platform.

Would I get more points if I told you I am 72 years old? I was only 71 when that pic was made.

Yep, I've been playing the game for a long time...and it's still fun. I grew up in Clearwater; and we ran once a month at a drag strip in Kissimmee during the fifties.

I doubt that Walt Disney had even heard of Orlando in those days. Hell, he might not have even known where Florida was.

Welcome....

Get a 90-93 740/940 witha B230FT. Then up the boost and have fun.
A guy I meet at a meet has a 13sec 940. It only has a few simple bolt-ons.

I would leave the car with a built B230FT and then once you get tired of turbo power, then you can swap to the LSx......"No really power, just turbo Sh*t"
I dont remember the first place I saw this quote.

It wasn't really a drag strip/track per se. It was an old airfield and we had access to the runway one Sunday each month. The drags were conducted by a local car club from the area. This all happened more than fifty years ago. I believe the old airfield had been used for training by the Army Air Corps during WWII. I think the site was later refurbished and is now the location of Gateway Airport.

Florida didn't have any dedicated drag strips in those days. All of our organized racing was done on air strips. We primarily raced at Brooksville, Kissimmee, Sebring, and Amelia Earhart Airfield (near Miami). Rarely, we were able to race at Macdill AFB. The use of a runway at Macdill was spotty; because it was still an active base. Access to Macdill was purely at the descretion of whoever happened to be the base commander at the time. Oh, during speed week at Daytona, we ran night drag races at Flagler Airport.

Don Garlits was a regular at these meetings...well before he hit the big time.

Fun times from another era.

Very Cool! I'm maybe 12-15 miles from the Kissimmee Airport, So I know the location. I could only imagine racing there. Now Orlando has SpeedWorld, which for me has been here for ever So I couln't imagine NOT having that around. Otherwise there's the track in Gainesville, where NHRA has Gatornationals. Sounds like you a have a million and one stories.
