Hello all,
I'm Gunnar and I've just joined Volvo Forums in hopes to learn more about my potential future purchase of a V70 wagon. I really like the 2001-2006 models and would like to learn about any potential problems they have, fuel economy and anything else I should know before purchasing. I've already looked at a few and, from what I've seen, many of them (even those with low miles) have lived a hard life; lots of parking dings, dirty/worn interiors, curbed wheels, etc...
My biggest question concerns fuel economy. I've searched the EPA fuel economy site and found that, for the 2003 year model it lists 6 different configurations of the V70, all of which have different highway fuel economy ratings. The site shows one configuration (2.4L turbo w/5sp. auto trans) that returns between 27-28 hwy mpg. However, there is a listing for another 2.4L turbo with 5sp auto that returns 23 hwy mpg. I'm wondering what differences might exist between 2.4L turbo models that would account for such a big gap in fuel economy? What's the trick to figuring out which 2.4L turbo models get 27-28?

Suggest you post this in the V70 section; more likely to get a response.
I also like the V70s but there are lots of caveats to be aware of; for one i would avoid '99 to 2003 MYs. If you're main concern is gas mileage then you probably want to stay away from the turbo models, though most here would rather have the turbo; mucho more fun to drive!

- N/A 10.5:1 compression ratio (CR), 2.4L
- LPT (low pressure turbo) 9.0:1 CR, 2.4L, up to 5 psi or so boost
- HPT (low pressure turbo) 8.5:1 CR, 2.3L, up to 9 psi boost
