New Here
I joined the forum with a question about a warning lamp on my 850, but I forgot to introduce myself...
I've driven my Volvo since November 2006, it's my second automobile (used to have a 1988 Acura Legend). The car has been in the family since it was new, it used to be my grandparents' car. I've got a 1996 850 sedan. It's white, non-turbo, has the optional equipment package (leather seats, etc), and has only 69K miles on it. It's always been garaged and looks quite good for a 12 year old car.
I'm not too mechanically minded when it comes to cars--I drive them and fill their gas tanks--but have others do my maintenance for me. I'd take the time to learn, but I'm taking a full load of psychology courses every semester and am aspiring to go into research. I usually see a mechanic who has a lot of experience with Volvos rather than the dealer, the Volvo shop is a few miles away from him and he can always get genuine parts.

Welcome to the forum, you will find help here. In general, going with genuine parts (OEM) is the best way to go. Make sure that the timing belt & its pulleys & hydraulic tensioner get replaced at every 70,000 miles or 5 years.
Good luck in college, I remember the days I had 21-credit a semester
