New kid on the block
Hello all. I am looking forward to reading your Volvo stories. I have ownedseveral 240 series over the years and currently own a 1984 245 intercooled turbo plus with IPD suspension kit and 245,000 +/- miles on it (runs a lot better than when new!). I also own a 2000 S-40 with 135,000 miles that is currently in stock condition. In addition, I also sold new & used volvos for 6 years here in California. I am not a tech in any way however I have spun a lot of wrenches on the 240 series red motor & suspensions. Anyway... Thanks for looking. Vedi, Vechi, Vovlo!

RE: New kid on the block
Hello and welcome,
By reading your post it seems to me that know have a lot of knowledge in volvos since you owned so many.
I am planing on buying a used Volvo sometime this year around the 8-10K price range. One of the cars that I am interested in is the 1st generation S40 but I have read severel post in this forum that people have had some problems with them like the transmission going bad. It seems to me that they are a hit and miss and I would have to take a gamble on them.
But the car that I am more leaning towards is the S70 because I love its classy design. I preferably would like to buy a 98 S70 because it does not have the ETM. But I would like to know in your opinion on how the 99-00 S70 cars are. I know that they do have the ETM's in them but are they any other problems that I should know about them. A couple of weeks ago I saw a 00 S70 with only 31K miles on it and when I called the dealer they said it was sold. I am looking for one with low miles on it and I would preferably would like to get a 98 one but if a 99-00 one comes along with low miles and in great condition, then it will be very tempting for me.
Thank you

Hello mjv,
Greetings from Chicagoland.
It seems to me that many people on this forum live in California. It sounds like CA is a Volvo heaven. Many people on this forum are extremely knowledgeable, some of them even seem better than mundane professionals. Anyway, enjoy and make sure to post technical questions on your model-specific section to get accurate replies. I'm in the 850, so you probably won't see me elsewhere except the general forums.
Hello Ahmed,
I agree that S70s look really nice, and when you have troubles, there is always Moderator S70driver at your rescue!
Enjoy!
