Hello ladies and gentlemen! I am brand new to the Volvo community. I am looking for an 850 (wagon or sedan) with a manual transmission in the local area (Colorado/Wyoming). As you can imagine, it's shaping up to be a pretty difficult search...
I look forward to being a part of the community!!

My adivice is look for a 98 V70 or S70 T5 with a five speed. Sometimes referred to as the T5M. You will not find a Turbocharged 850 in the US unless somebody converted it or imported it. Volvo did not send them to the USA. The 98 V/S70 is virtually the same car and the T5M is relatively easy to find.
Go to Autotrader.com and put standard transmission as a requirement for a 98 V/S 70 and you will find several. I look at them all the time. Stick with the 98 model year though. You can get a 98 GLT with a five speed also, but it has the low pressure turbo (198 hp vs. 222 hp). Do NOT get a non-turb/NA model.
GOOD LUCK.

Thanks for the welcome fellas. there was a manual 850 for sale in Denver but it must have sold as i never got a response and the ad was taken down right after i e-mailed. I don't need to find the car right away as I have two others sitting at home. I am looking at mkII GTIs at the same time so we'll see what happens.
Jim: thanks for the advice but I'm looking for a less-frills car that I don't have to spend too much on and don't have to put premium in (I already have a fun little car that needs premium). I did find out in my research that Volvo didn't import any 850 turbos with sticks. I don't really have a problem with going n/a. I know it won't be too fast. I've driven my aunt's n/a wagon and it's slow as hell but it gets the job done. all in all, if I end up finding an 850 it will be more show than go. I'm just looking at putting the stereo from my totaled bmw into it and maybe some eibachs, rims and tints. maybe, just maybe, an exhaust.

jim, thanks again for the advice. I would love to get a V70 or S70 but I don't have that much in the bank right now and I'm really not too excited about having to pay off a car. I'm really looking for a low initial investment. If I don't find what i'm looking for by the time I have that much in the bank then that's exactly what I'll go for but for now i'm aiming low.
