Hi! This Volvo Wagon has 287,000 on it and won't Start. Battery is good. Cables look clean. Turning the key gets dash lights but no crank. Any advice is welcome. Don't want to get rid of this faithful car.

Starter does not engage and spin the engine over? Automatic trans?

Check the neutral safety switch, it's mounted on the shifter, right below the plastic cover (that is held on with 2 phillips head screws) White pointer lines up when in park or neutral and can come "unhooked". You will understand when you see it.

I will try this procedure! It's new to me. Glad to learn something new 'bout this older Volvo. Had it for ten years. Third owner on 1987 wagon.

Phillips head screwdriver, two screws at rear of shifter cover, pull cover up, NSS is on the left side with a white hook connected to a pin on the shift lever. Arrow on white hook lines up with mark on dark plastic of NSS when in park or neutral. If the shifter is pushed to the right and moved - the white hook will be disconnected.
