New to the group. I have just turned my 1998 V70 over to my newly licensed daughter. Yikes! My V70 has 200,000 miles and I am hoping to go to 300K. All in all, a somewhat dependable car but I would not buy another Volvo. Have since bought two Toyota Avalons and owned three other Toyotos before the V70. From quickly reading the board it seems that 97 and 98 were characterized by poor quaility. Has the quality of Volvo increased in the intervening years? With my car the major problems were (1) an air guide under the engine that fell off twice due to plastic mounts that did not absorb shock very well (replacement $120 ea.), (2) light bulbs that always needed replacing, (3) air pump, and (4) turbo hose, as well as minor glitches across the years. I would note that I am very conscientious about maintenance. I bought the car because Toyota had just discontinued making a Camry Wagon and the Subaru Outback was underpowered.
