Hello Volvo Forum!
We are owners of a 1990 Regina Rex Volvo 740 Wagon with 149,000 km. Can't wait to tap into the wisdom of this forum. We are enjoying our car and have enjoyed many a Volvo in the past. Have a few questions and will find the proper forum to post.

Fixed our cold start, shaky idle problem in our 1990 Volvo wagon with Regina Rex engine. We kept focusing on the cold start problems common to these cars and never thought it could be the engine. The car had only 140,000 km and was in beautiful condition. Finally, we discovered gas smells in the coolant and were losing coolant. After months of replacing parts, a mechanic measured the coolant with his sniffer machine. He sadly said we have a cracked engine block or a leaky head. the head was good, but sure enough, when we took everything apart, he was correct. We found a used engine block and replaced it. We had more than 7 Volvo mechanics work on our car and we spend way too much, but no one but the final mechanic could diagnose the problem. Well, now we have it fixed. Sometimes you just have to expect the worst. Good luck!
