Im not sure where you got your info!!!
Unless you overheated it till the point of it turning off itself you should be fine just replacing the headgasket.
Just have the head checked.It might cost you a total of like $400.00 to fix it and that is with rebuilding the head.

OK since you overheated to that point you most likely melted the bearings.

Im my 5 Years of being a Volvo Master technician I have never seen the block bo bad unless it was overheated till it shut off.
Which you failed to mention till now.

So Im Sorry you will need another engine then.

There is a big difference between just overheating an engine and overheating it till the point of it shutting off.
Was the guage not working or did you just not notice it was in the red?
Why did you run it till the piont it was shut off and destroy the engine?

I was trying to help you and not have you spend a ton of money to repair your car and try to save you money.But when you don't give all the information then we can't help you fix your car properly.
