New Member with question
Hello all! I am new to the whole use of a forum but I was highly encouraged to do so after I realized that my question was not getting answered to the satisfaction I needed so what better way than this (by the way, this is excellent)!
So my question is this: I owned (still sorta own) a beautiful 1997 850 T-5 Volvo which I need to sell. I had someone interested in the car, came to look at it with their mechanic. The mechanic looked at the car for all of 5-10 minutes and turned around saying no good because the TRACS light is on in the "TRACS OFF" lit up. Is this suppose to be lit up all the time? What could this mean?
I really hope someone could help me out on this!

It means your ABS/tracs module needs to be repaired, about $115 to $130
This is a COMMON failure
A NEW Volvo unit is over $700, the rebuilts are actually better as the techs permanently repair the failure areas

RE: New Member with question
I was told by someone else that it is just a light issue and that it really is not a problem... is it a big mechanical issue that may prevent the car from being sold. It has been on as long as i have had the car which is about 5 years... any reason that no one picked up on that as a problem?

RE: New Member with question
Its a known problem with the 850 and v70, if you go on the v70 forum on the front page and scroll down page 1 to abs tracks on off etc you can read it there, also page 4. it may be on the 850 forum as well, I havent looked to be honest.Mine is on on the v70 i own, and dont think id get much for my 98 v70 unless i get them fixed.happy hunting.john.

Or you can try this:
http://home.earthlink.net/~vicrocha/
Seems to have a great reputation.
And if you would, please post tech questions either in vehicle-specific forum or General Volvo Chat. You would receive better results as well.
Good luck,
JPN
