Default New S70 owner!

Hello all! I recently purchased a 1998 Volvo S70 GLT Silver in color. She's got 173k Miles on her but still runs strong. She had a few knick knacky problems but i've been working through them slowly. They previous owner had let her sit for about 3 years after he couldn't get his inspection renewed due to a missing corner marker light

So I snagged a corner marker light from the junkyard, reattached a blown off boost hose (to the intercooler at the bottom... he couldn't figure out why it wasn't running right). Put a new battery in, changed over to synthetic oil, checked the other fluids and Had the interior detailed and the exterior given a good wash.

I'm taking her down for inspection today but there are a few problems she still needs worked out.

1. The Drivers door won't open from the outside. I think I need a new door handle.
2. The car won't shift out of park unless you press the shift lock overide button.
3. The front struts are blown badly and I'm going to be replacing them asap. (any suggestions on a good brand or upgrade or other things to replace along with them?)

Anyway I'd love to hear of any other things I should do before I put her back on the road! And i'll try to snap a few pics of her as soon as I get off work! SO hello all!

Hi and welcome to the forum.

Sounds like you got a good deal on a somewhat clean car. Try to make sure the OBD-2 says ready before you take it to be inspected. The drive cycle is between 400 and 450 miles and 3 days if the battery has been dead. You can Google "Volvo drive cycle" to find the short cut that may be about 4 hours and 125 miles.

Your door problem is likely the latch not installed properly. They go in kinda tricky.

Your shift lock situation is likely a bad ignition switch tumbler (easy repair).

There is also a good chance that the po lied to you about the failed inspection. These cars will fail emissions if the PCV system has not been serviced. I'll link some videos for you.

Oh, if you like nice firm suspension get the Bilsteins HD's. Otherwise just get the Bilstein touring series.

Most people replace the strut mounts and spring seats while at it. Definitely get the HD parts.
