Newbie w/'03 V70 T5 automatic
Hi everyone,
Just picked up an '03 V70 T5 auto, tan with beige (oak?) interior, 156k miles. I was about to say 1st time Volvo owner, but remembered that my first car was a Volvo 244DL 5 speed which I had in college.
The car was exceptionally clean but no maintenance records (though clean carfax) from a private seller. Price was good, so decided to give it a shot and most importantly put a smile on my wife's face when she drove it.
Of course once we got it home, we noticed a few hiccups (come to think of it, it did feel like the car was hiccuping at times) while driving. After some searching on the forums, I took a drive up to Nutley, NJ (over 1 hr away from home in Princeton) and met with nick at HighBloom and immediately knew that he was the right guy to tackle the tuning of the car so the car is there for the next few days.
The dealer did oil change, wiper blades, and cabin filter as soon as I got the plates on the car. Had them update the TCM as well (but they didn't do the adaptation) so after that fail I know not to let them do anything but basic oil change.
Anyway, engine is strong, suspension bushings probably need to be replaced, but amazingly no ripped seat side bolster or ripped leather seat (though they are beginning to crack).
Saw no sticker indicating timing belt change, so that's the 2nd issue to be tackled after we sort out the tranny. Then we go to suspension & brakes. And once the mechanicals are squared away, we can do some upgrading lie: factory roof rails, subwoofer, grom audio bluetooth, 17" rims (currently rides on 16") etc.
Glad to be here and really appreciate hearing everyone's experience.
See you around Central NJ!
