Good morning!

I have an issue with a Volvo S40 T5 (standard transmission). The transmission was destroyed (gears teeth bended) after a valve failure.

I´ve just bought a used standard transmission, but the mechanic (specialized in transmissions) says "it doesn´t fit" and "it´s a different transmission", while the seller as well as the Volvo distributor say "there is only 1 type of manual transmission for the S40 of year 2005".

So, who´s right? and how could I determine so?

If your mechanic indicates that it will not fit, then you are at the end of the line. He/she has no incentive to delay a repair that big.

You should have let your mechanic source his own transmission.
