Question Stealth hitch, why?

Question:

Before 2018, you could get a fixed trailer hitch on a V60 and other models... they cost a few $100. On more recent models, they only sell the retractable hitches, which cost around $2000 including installation. I see that people who have that hitch are mostly happy with them, but does anyone know why you can't just get a standard fixed receiver? Is is the styling, that we don't want the little stub showing out the back? Clearance? or what?

The only aftermarket hitches that will fit this model is a two-part manual equivalent of the Volvo hitch. It is made by Stealth and comes apart rather than retracting with a push button. It does seem like a simple extra step when you are mounting or dismounting a bike rack or trailer, but it is one more step. Costs about 1/2 of the Volvo retractable hitch.

I asked both aftermarket people and Volvo why you could no longer get the fixed hitches for the newer Volvo models, and no one seemed to be able to tell me, or if you could just get a manual "Stealth" model and leave it connected.

I have the Stealth and yes - you can leave the Stealth hitch attached 24/7, but in my opinion, I prefer the cleaner look of a backend without a hitch peeping out. Also, attaching the hitch is not a big deal once you get used to it.

My guess is that the stealth hitch doesn't compromise the style of the vehicles... And of course, they make more money off of it..
