Default Volvo Rookie

Hi, all. I joined the forum a couple of weeks ago because I wanted advice on purchasing. Now that I have finally purchased a vehicle, I figured I would introduce myself. My name's Oscar and I'm from Texas. I just purchased my first Volvo! It's a 2006 S40 T5 with the premium package. The dealer didnt do his homework, so I got the premium audio with the 6 disk changer in there as well and they didnt even know. I love my Volvo and I am looking forward to a very long relationship with it. I'm not good at mechanics, but I hope I can learn how to take good care of it from you all.

Welcome to VF. Congrats on your first Volvo, the S40 is a great little car. When I got my S60R, the dealer I brought it from was a GMC dealer so he had no idea what he was sitting on. I ended up getting it for less then what KBB had it for for trade in.

That's cool. I don't know how long ago you got your S60R, but didn't it feel great to know you were getting a deal and the dealer didn't even know it?

In my quest to find an S40 I found an S60 R that was similarly priced to the S40s I was comparing. I almost threw away all the research on the S40 and went for the S60R on a spur of the moment. The only bad thing was that it had 74k miles on it as compared to 52k on the S40 T5. Needless to say, I went back to look for it a few days ago, after I made my purchase, and it was long gone. I would have loved 300 hp...but I still love my 218. The car puts a smile on my face everytime I go out the door and see it parked out there.

I got my S60R in december of 09 when all the dealers were really hurting. It felt great that I pulled a fast one on them. I paid 14K out the door for the car with only 45K miles on it. Also, the SRs do not stay around long. They sell very, very fast.

As for the S40, I think that was actually a better bet. You can easily get 300HP out of the S40. It is lighter and cheaper to maintain.

Before I bought my Volvo I swore I wouldn't touch it in terms of mods. I wanted to leave it the way it was designed to be- semi-luxurious and classy. Once I drove it, my mind was changed pretty quick. Like I said, I don't have a clue when it comes to mechanical devices, but I'e been reading what I can about chips and ECU upgrades and all. The one thing I don't want is for my car to sound like a mosquitoe if I change out the exhaust. I love the way the turbo purrs right now. Once I have some money saved up, I'll make decision as to which upgrades to makr. All I know is I want more speed now that I've had a taste.
