Default How to...

I get my moms old 1996 Volvo 850 GLT, I like it, but theres a LOT of miles on that thing cause we always had a long drive to school everyday. Needless to say, its lost some of its pep. I want to put a turbo on it, would it be easier to buy all aftermarket and go that way (i wouldnt mind buying used stuf and then build it up), or should I try and find a stock turbo 850? Would they stock turbo 850 fit in my 1996 Volvo 850 GLT?

Thanks

I forgot to ask; what all would I have to buy and what price range ( not the best, around medium quality) would it be?

Thanks again

Sell the car and buy a 850Turbo (this is the easier way). Or you could go to a junkyard and see if they have a 850 turbo, and use that for the parts.
Here is a link ofS70driver's list of needed parts: https://volvoforums.com/m_37840/tm.htm

Theres only one problem here, Im only 16. My car is probably getting ready for 300K, but no one knows cause the mileage meter broke at 167,000. I dont have any money and my dad doesnt even want me to get a turbo. There is an older Volvo down the road that is a turbo, its an older one and its a station wagon; I would think ithas a lot of miles on it by the way it looks (no one uses it). Thanks though.

Lets put it this way. Your going to put more money into it then the car is worth to turbo a non turbo model.

The worst of your worries is tuning which is going to cost alot. Dyno tuning is what your going to need to work all the issues out to get the right tune.

Sell the car and buy a turbo model. Simple as that.

But look at spending a good $5k plus to turbo your non turbo.

This is what it comes down to. You can buy used parts to save money. However if one of those parts just isn't up to snuff and you don't realize it, BAM your going to have major problems.

So to do it right, new parts is what you would want to use. You don't have to like I said above, but it would be wise to use new parts.

See your non turbo engine isn't made to be turboed. It can be, but it will take a lot and a lot of money and time. And your going to want to spend a lot of time and money on a tune to get it right. I don't mean buying a RICA, IPD USA, BSR PPC ECU upgrade. I am talking dyno tuning to properly tune your non turbo to be turboed.
