Hi all! I am desperate to find a trustworthy mechanic either in upstate New York (I am in Saratoga Springs) or in Rhode Island (where my car is currently). It is a beautiful bright red 240 GL and I have a very serious problem where coolant is leaking into the engine. Usually my dad can fix most problems, he is an 240 enthusiast but this is beyond his capabilities and he judges it will be a difficult fix so I don't want just anyone doing it.

 

Try reposting on the Volvo 240,740/940 forum - its an active board. When you say coolant is leaking into the engine - what are the symptoms? ie is the exhaust white with water vapor or is the oil foaming? Sounds like a head gasket is the most likely cause. Has the car overheated recently and how fast do you lose coolant?
