its just insurance which means the probability of spending more than that thousand is lower than not - but if you can't avoid the financial impact of a major repair then its going to give you peace of mind. You didn't mention our year but you can check a resource like Consumer Reports to see what the repair history is for your model/year is and check for known major issues like chronic oil consumption etc. Next is read the policy carefully to see what costs are covered. ie towing? rentals? dealer repairs vs independent? Genuine Volvo parts vs aftermarket?

It’s a 2019. I had two issues with the gps. Back in 2019, the middle of the screen blacked out. It happened again two weeks ago. The issue cleared itself the next day.
So, I realize electrical system issues are very expensive to repair after the new car warranty expires.
But, yes, I will look up common repair problems and repair history for my vehicle.

you are correct in that electronics issues can be costly to repair, largely because the components are replaced not repaired. As to your car, you may need a new GPS display system (figure about $900 to replace) or maybe there's a connector/wiring issue. Take a look at what the warranty policy covers.
