Default Great new independent Volvo repair shop in Lynn MA

Even if we do say so ourselves.

Hi I'm Dave Kaplan. Rave Imports Inc is the brain child of myself and my partner Ryan Mc Shay. We have 40 years of Volvo dealership repair experience between us. I have won the Volvo VISTA award and been rated a Expert level Master Technician every year since that rating has been in existence. My partner is the brightest young tech I have ever met. So after all this experience we have decided we can do it better on our own and charge only about half the price. Check out our reviews on yelp and superpages!

We are also glad to answer any Volvo questions we can for you on this thread. So post 'em if you got 'em!

Welcome, Dave. I'm on the West side of Boston - not too far away.

Do you work on Volvos only?

We work on everything. Our target audience is Volvo owners but we have worked on our customers other cars almost as much as their Volvos.

Hi Dave,

I have a 99 xc70 that has about 124,000 miles on it. I got it used, the previous owner was less than kind to the car.

I want ot keep it as a third vehicle, I love the car, but now it has begun bucking at all speeds - mostly under low to mid throttle. Before I was getting a loss of power, like running out of gas but that has gone away or become this bucking issue.

Have replaced the fuel pump relay and ABS computer recently.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Russ K

Congratulations on your shop Dave. I may be visiting you soon. I have a 1994 960. Its in great shape but all of a sudden after running fine while driving, it will decellerate no matter how much pressure is applied to the gas pedal. When pressing the pedal during this it sounds like air or something is trying to get through. The car just slows down to a crawl if it goes at all, yet after shutting it off for a while it runs again fine until the same issue props up again. Your insight would be really appreciated. I'm over in Gloucester.

Default Shop update ?

Hi there - Just found this - Congrats on your move!

Are you still around ? Has anyone here gone to you yet?

To the guy in Gloucester - my fiancee lives there, and we have a Volvo, too - maybe we could carpool. (Not that it's far anyway!)

So, Dave, do you charge to check codes, or check things out (Diagnostics.)

I've been having some issues with the AWD on my V50 (2005.) It seems like the DSC is turning on, and effectively shutting down the rear tires from spinning. With so much experience under your belt, I'm sure you have seen this before. Any input? My car does not have any way to turn the spin control off, which would be the obvious first step.

Hope to hear from you!

You won't get an answer from Dave here as he's not active on this forum.

I've just had some work done by Rave Imports at their new shop in Salem. Best way by far to contact them is to call 978-825-0025.

Update 6/11/15. Rave Imports botched the installation of my sway bar bushings and the front struts. At this point I can not recommend them.

Update 8/29/15. Today I started to fix RAVE's screw-ups and discovered one of the driver side control arm bolts is stripped. RAVE loosened these bolts when installing the sway bar bushings. I know the entire history of this car and I can guarantee no-one had ever touched that bolt before RAVE Imports stripped it. This just keeps getting better.

hi dave:

i live in VT and love my 1992 DL-240 VOLVO w/ 132,000 miles. Lately temp meter goes from 9am to just below RED after 15 mins driving. Not good. I turn on the heater and TEMP gauge returns to 9 am. 5-10 mins latter it starts again. New thermostat installed (87C/187F Wahler) but nipple probably in wrong position. New fan clutch and 2x clean rad and block w/ drain at the block. New MAF and timing at 12 deg BTDC.

Now my problem. My plugs are soft white....not good, all 4. I use NGK

What is causing my "white plugs"???? Could this be the start of a head gasket leaking?? I changed plugs recently and BOSCH plugs were pale yellow. Not good. I bet combustion of anti-freeze and fuel causing this.

Compression test and leak down test on Sat. Am I on the right track??
