I have purchased Volvo S60 2011 T2.0 model. For the few days, transmission was showing bit erratic acceleration and deacceleration. RPM would go up to 4000 suddenly, and one time it accelerated fast when I gently pressed the pad. Yesterday, transmission performance low waning message came on while driving, once acknowledged it was gone. However, car slowed down to 20 km/h and had to lumped to parking spot. Then at night tried again, the car was behaving normal but didn't drive long, just one kilometer, today again drove for 2-3 kilometer, it didn't show any transmission problem.
I believe when gearbox heats up, it cause transmission slipping and whining sound, RPM revs up to 4000 but low power delivered to the wheel.
Does anyone had similar problem with Volvo cars? In Volvo Forum, many owners had similar experience, one person didn't do anything and it is running fine.
Is there separate cooling system for gearbox? Will change of transmission fluid help to fix this issue? Couldn't find dipstick to check gearbox oil level. Owner's manual says that under normal driving conditions, the gear-box oil does not need to be changed during its service life. However, this may be necessary under adverse driving conditions.
Please share your experience if you had any such. Thanks!

most automatics have a transmission cooler that in some cases can be part of the radiator. You should see lines running from the transmission to the radiator area (you may need to remove the shroud to get a good view). On some models the dipstick is hard to see as its way down low. Check for a vid on Youtube to get a visual. As to a slipping transmission, start by doing a series of drain/fills - make sure you use the correct fluid per the owners manual. If you have a six speed auto, your tranmission may use a fill tube to set the level (the drain has an inner bolt and an outer bolt - the inner opens the drain tube, the outer removes tube that sets the level. Read up on how to set the correct level - which is done with a warm transmission (newer models can use the ECU to report the transmission temp to a full feature OBD tool). If you do your own drain/fill, drain through filter paper to see if anything chunky (lol, like clutch bits) comes out. If the fluid is black and smells burn, chances are you already have internal damage. Otherwise you may have issues with a solenoid/valve body. Last option before ripping into the transmission is to make sure you are on the most current version of the software. I'd also suggest reseating the TCU and clean any other accessible connectors if fresh fluid doesn't help.

Thanks a lot for your explanation.
I am taking car to Volvo service center on Saturday for transmission fluid change, and hope there is no internal damage inside the gearbox.
Though I believe there is no mechanical damage as it runs fine when I drove for few kilometers two times, so most probably it could be software glitch, heating up and may be low fluid level.
I will post update once I get it checked.

Hi All,
Took car to Volvo Service Center. Received inspection report.
They are saying that whole gearbox needs to be replaced. Some internal part is stuck inside, and there is no individual part available to repair the gearbox, so complete gearbox has to be changed. Initial quoted price without deep discount is 43000 QAR which is cost prohibit, won't be worth to replace with new one.
Still do not understand the thing that other time, car runs fine without making any sound which gives impression that there is no mechanical damage.
They said they tried to reset the software and checked ECU, gives diagnosis details report suggesting something stuck inside the gearbox.
Do you think that the gearbox could be still repaired. However, Service Center says they didn't find separate part number for any particular component inside so suggesting to change the whole gearbox. Looking at cost of new gearbox, it will better to simply sell it to the scrap yard.
Kindly suggest if individual part can be purchased online and gearbox can be repaired at any garage? Thanks!
