Default Hot off the Press! Volvo via China!

Looks like the Swedish boat might stop in China before delivering cars here in US! http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/33504608/ns/business-autos/

This might be a good thing. With new money and Volvo's history things might go back to building Volvo's, not fords in Volvo clothing.

Ford has been a lot better for Volvo than GM was for Saab... GM took over Saab and Saabs became basically rebadged GM cars. Ford let Volvo do its own thing, and then learned from them. Same thing with Mazda... That's why Ford is actually building reliable, safe cars these days.

As for a Chinese company buying Volvo... there's one hurdle they still have to clear, and it's actually a big one. Volvo AB, the Swedish company that makes heavy equipment and semis, may only still own 10 % of Volvo Cars, however, they also own the rights to the Volvo name. This was done specifically to prevent the Volvo name from being put on products that don't uphold Volvo's reputation for quality, safety, and durability. If Volvo AB isn't convinced that any possible buyer will do right by the Volvo name, they WILL revoke the rights to that name.
