Recently turn 17, I have a 1994 Volvo 960 passed down from my grandma. I'm just happy to have a car but to be honest it doesn't appeal to me enough to dump money into it! Help me fall in love with Volvos before I waste my money on an F150

I'm 65 and I am considering buying my first Volvo, a brand new Volvo V60 with the new D4 and 8 speed gearbox in the next coming months. I was thinking about getting a S60, but the extra boot space in the V60 will make a better choice for my needs. One thing that does concern me however, is the lack of a spare wheel and tyre. It might be safe enough in Europe or the US, but here in South Africa its bordering on the dangerous to get stuck without a spare in the middle of no where. There is no way that I am driving anywhere without a spare, I'll either order one from Volvo or buy a non standard wheel rim and fit a similar tyre. I think Volvo need to rethink their idea of not providing a spare wheel and tyre.

My last car was a 2001 Jaguar V8 S Type and losing value very quickly, so I let the wife use it as part exchange a new Hyundai i10. She thinks its a stunning little car, I drove it once and was horrified how vicious the brakes are, it took me quite a while to get use to it.

I have a son 31 now living in UK, a daughter 24 and a cracking little Granddaughter who's two in May.

Hey DA73 I didn't really think too much of my first Volvo until I had to let it go. After it was gone I really started to miss it.

@ Malcolm: I did not know Volvo joined the band wagon of no spare. That is crazy. I'm with you on that one, purchase a full size spare and keep rolling. I don't even like those space saving spare tires.

Thanks RPSI. If my memory is correct only the V40 has a space saver spare, the S60 and V60 only get some kind of tyre sealant, which is dangerous in a country like South Africa with its high crime rate. Get stuck on the side of the road in the middle of no where and one is in all probability robbed and dead before help arrives.

I'm 19. I just picked up my first Volvo, a s60 2.5T AWD. It's a nice upgrade from my rusty old Hyundai Accent, and I'm pretty stoked to have it.

26 with and 02 S60 non turbo I have had since I was about 20 in 2008. Bought with 80k about to roll over the 175k mark in a week or so.

Never would have imagined back then how much I would end up liking my Volvo. Bought it because the previous car I had an 97 Honda Accord folded like a Tin can in low MPH accident.

Other than the dreaded transmission slipping from these era Volvo's I dealt with early on. The car has been solid.

In an odd way learning to deal with all the different quirks of these cars has been very cool. Thanks to this site and a few YouTube videos. I went from 2-3 years ago not knowing crap about cars. To doing quite a few suspension and electrical and regular maintenance jobs on my own. Also has given me knowledge to isolate and understand what is going on with any other issues that arise. So I can't be swindled into anything unnecessary.

Mechanically keeping my car in good shape has become a thing of pride. I can't say as much for the cosmetics.
