Die Hard with a Vengence-DVD
PQ=4
AQ=4
M=5I think the mostaction I've ever seen in a movie!

S70Driver, I hope you don't mind. I added M for what yourated the movie itself, followed by a brief discription why.

I'm sure the pic and audio would be better, but we are still in the old school with a 36" Sharp and a KLH surround. Still a good picture and 500 watts of clear sound with a 50 watt 8" subwoofer.

Pirates of the Caribbean at Worlds End DVD

PQ = 4.5/5 It upconverted nicely.

AQ = 4.5/5 Sounded great on my HDTV's speakers except for a few parts but they were bassy parts that a subwoofer would be needed to hear it best.

I had a bad cable on my subwoofer and it kept humming. I just ordered a new cable last night. I needed a 25' cable and could not get one that long in the stores. I hate joining two cable together so I just bought one online.

Last movie I watched was Aviator. I had watched it once before and didn't get into it that much. I really liked it much better the 2nd time.

PQ - 4.0/5.0
SQ - 4.3/5.0 - There were a few moments when they used the surround speakers that was very good.
M - 4.2/5.0 - I doubt if I would rate very many movies higher that 4.5 though.

I don't have HD DVD so I will probably not give high rates at all to PQ since it does not look as good as HDTV.

Here is a good site to go to for movies, concerts and stuff like that.

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/forum...ne=30&f=44

You will see where I post mostly in DVD Concerts. I'm also into surround sound music like SACD and DVD-A. My favorite concert, and my wife's by far, is Roger Waters "In the Flesh". He was one of the lead guys for Pink Floyd, so if you don't like Pink Floyd you will not like this concert.

Neil Young "Heart of Gold" is also very good and quite different from Roger Waters. They interview all the people performing with Neil at the Grand Old Opera where he talks about the fact that he has a brain tumor that is going to be operated on the following week. I watched it thinking that Neil was thinking that he may never be able to perform again.

Sorry to hijack this thread with information most of you could care less about.

The Pursuit of Happyness (DVD)

PQ = 4.5 - Even on our oldschool, no upconverting DVD player
AQ = 4.0 - no surround sound moments

Great movie though! Though, after watching the special features, my wife and I are intersted in learning how Chris Gardner's son turned out... as a person. He had an amazing father.

Eastern Promishes (HD DVD)

PQ = 5/5
AQ = 3/5 The audio is very low and I understand why but it is just way too low.

Very different type of movie. Good movie, but very different. I got into it.

Ahh, cool. I've only seen bits and pieces of Blade Runner over the years. I think it's time to add it to my Netflix Que.

Premonition - Starring Sandra Bullock

This was a strange movie. It was very hard for me to follow it and I didn't like the ending.

There were only a few occasions where you noticed the surround sound and the picture quality was fine. Not really the kind of movie where I would rate it though.

Overall I give the movie a 2-2.5on a scale of 1-5.

Spiderman 3 (Blu-ray)

PQ:
4.5 / 5, looks just as good as the content from my HD DVD player.

AQ: 4.0 / 5, this sounded great over my built in surround sound on my HDTV, but it would have sound much better with a real surround sound system.

All in all a good flick.

-------------------------------------

By the way I have become PURPLE. Meaning owning both HD DVD and Blu-ray players. I purchsed a 40GB PS3 yesteray.

Mr. and Mrs. Smith

PQ - 4.5/5.0
AQ - 5.0/5.0 - This has to be one of the best Surround Sound movies. Made me turn around and look behind me several times.

All in all an action packed movie with a good bit of humor. This was the 2nd time I watched it, and I liked it better the 2nd time.

Pan's Labyrinth (HD DVD)

PQ

AQ

Wow I wanted to see this movie since it came out. Looked great in the commercials. I didn't know it was all in Spanish and subtexted in Englsih. In honesty it doesn't detract from the flim at all. If anything it makes it better. This movie is great. It is also available on Blu-ray.

This was just another spectacular HD film. Just as good as Planet Earth. The narration was decent. Not as good as David Attenborough, but good nonetheless.

If you like Planet Earth, you will like this.
