I fixed the center rear seat belt, it was stuck. (850)
|
1. Aligned the fog lights as best I could.
2. Changed oil to synthetic. 3. Installed that hard torque mount bushing that iPd sends with their hd kit. 3. Put in some spider traps. There is a spider that keeps leaving me webs and biting me. |
Installed my new "Speedtune" chipped ECU in the 850. Took me a little while to let the car learn (Thanks for the help TECH) and WOW is all I can say!

Replaced a broken headlight lens and attempted to fix the tailgate hatch panel only to find out I need more of the fasteners for another trim piece that is also off. Fun times.

Sweet you've been talking about that for a long time. |
Changed my spark plugs
About a month ago I decided to start working on my car (99 S70GLT) myself whenever possible. Main reason was to save money. The dealer wanted $150 to replace the 5 plugs. I bought Volvo plugs from fcp for $43 and put them in today. I found I had to use a vacuum cleaner to suck out some dirt in the 1 and 2 plug wells (and she says I never vacuum!). Also took me a while to figure out how to get a wrench on the 10mm bolt holding down the 5 coil. I got in from the pass side using a 3/8 bar, ratchet was too big, flat wrench didn't have enough room. I used just a dab of anti-seize at the top of the threads on each plug. I didn't use a torque wrench. Took me maybe 2 hrs to figure out things for the first time. Maybe 30 min next time (if there is one). The old plugs looked good after 30K miles. I had replaced the air filter and cabin air filter 2 weeks ago and rotated the tires.

I picked up a set of tires for the S60 today and put those new wheels back on for good. It looks sweet. Rubs a bit, but I knew that it would from reading all of the previous threads on the subject. I haven't decided if I am going to keep or sell the fifth wheel. It would be nice to keep it as added insurance against any mishap.

enjoyed a nice drive in beautiful weather!

Installed My Wheels After Having Them Re-finished...
Got my wheels back from the painter. They look REAL GOOD compared to the shape they were in when I got the car a few weeks ago. They are now a little darker, a metalic charcoal grey. Sweet! I'll post a pic later today.
I went to Wal-Mart to get my 2 new tires mounted. They mount for $3 (or maybe $3.50) and offer a lifetime balance for $7.50 per tire. So I went there. The 1st Wal-Mart I went to broke their machine trying to get the tires on my 850 R wheels. Then they called the next closest one and told them what happened to make sure their machine was working properly and by the time I got there they did not want to put the tires on for me. They claim that they do not mount tires on "custom wheels" so I proceeded to let them know that my 17" wheels were "stock" and they fought me tooth and nail. I had my computer with me and I showed them the size on Volvo's website, still did not want to do it. I had to show them the wheel take in the fuel filler door before they would do it. After that, the guy acted like he could not balance them without putting weights on the outside of the wheels. After 4 hours of Wal-Mart I could not take any more so I just let him do it. Now I will get some touch up paint for the wheels and paint the weights until I go in for my next balance in 5,000 miles. The other Wal-Mart that broke their machine (close to my house) can put the correct weights on for me. |

Oooh, I can frequent this thread! In the last 500 miles (184,000 total, 98 V70XC):
-starter (bendix sticking engaged) -coolant hoses, reservoir, coolant, t-stat -plugs, cap, rotor, wires -right inner tie rod -tires -rear hatch attachment kit -headlight bulb -various vacuum lines -fuel pump -fuel filter -driver window motor (plastic housing broken in pieces!) -air filter -cabin air filter -abs module (didn't help) -Walmart floor mats -oil change -oil dipstick tube -headlight wire harnesses -rewired headlight harness to bulb wiring (crumbling) -fixed parking brake handle assembly-aluminum end pieces broke (long story). I made new pieces out of steel. More to come... |
I removed the secondary air pump, cleaned it, lubed it, put it back in.
Still junk. |
Fixed my blower fan & cleaned wheels...
I fixed my interior blower fan. Also cleaned my tires. Here are pics of my tires.

I reassembled my center console, after removing the flaking off woodish trim. I also broke the rear inside hatch handle. I got it off once without damage. Twice was once too many. Worst part was that in the end, what I fixed didn't need it removed.
Whenever I remove plastic pieces on this car, I feel like I'm disarming a bomb. Working very carefully, almost got it, then BOOM! explodes into a 1000 pieces. |
Washed the 244 today..... Now it needs a car cover
|
Driver side outer tie rod and passenger side control arm assembly were both replaced. Hopefully go for an alignment tomorrow, it needs it.
