What do you keep in your car?
Seeing as I just got a new car, I am transferring all of my "stuff" into it. I never really thought about it before, but there are a few things that I always make sure to have in my car.
Some of the stuff I generally keep:
- Flashlight
- Few pairs of sunglasses
- Small toolbox (basic stuff, zip ties, etc.)
- Handful of change and a few dollar bills
- Road flares
- Change of clothes

As little as possible. Usually a flashlight, a blanket, and a multitool. My car has been broken into, so therefore, I no longer keep anything of value in it, and yes, they stole my flashlight.
Haha.
I was recently driving home from Ohio in the middle of the night. At 5am on the PA turnpike, in the middle of nowhere, while it was sleeting outside, my front tire exploded (dry rot I guess). I was fine to change it, but I had to call 911 to send a truck out to illuminate it for me, as I did not have my flashlight in that car. Thats what led me to make sure I always have a flashlight and road flares.
I just ordered the Gorilla telescoping lug wrench from IDP to keep in my trunk. Wasn't too expensive and looks to be better than most stockers.

My spare, jumper cables, a phillips and flathead screwdriver, torx bits, usually a battery run light. They've all done quite well in what I've needed them for. IC hoses blowing off, Volvo's random torx bits, etc.
Everything. I mean it. I have the following right now:
Flashlight or 2
Coat
Spare tire and the stuff that goes along with it.
Bank deposit slips
Tire pressure guage
Real estate sign
Air pump
Real estate flyers
Real estate flyer box
Real estate contracts
Tape
Stapler
Scissors
Pliers
1 Quart of oil
Gloves
Rag
Computer tool kit
More papers
Spare bulbs in the glovebox
Radar detector that is almost never plugged in.
Cell phone charger
GPS software
Spare window switch
Sun glasses
Fishing rods
Fishing tackle
Antibacterial wiper (I'm kind of a germ-a-fob)
Tissue
And other stuff that is worth less than $5 if all put in a box and sold to anyone that would be interested.
PS: And most importantly, my little Serta Sheep that sits in my back window. To let everyone know that I'm just a sheep being lead to the slotter.

Both cars have the same basic package:
Glove box: Flashlight, a few maps, tire pressure gauge
Console: Assorted CDs - I change the mix every week or so.
Trunk: Jeans, sweatshirt, jumper cables, basic tool box, basic first aid kit, work gloves, bungee cords.
I'm in Minnesota, so in winter I add: Blanket, snow brush, small shovel, winter survival kit (snack bars, candles, matches, flares, cups, etc.)

Sounds like my wife's car. It has basic stuff in glove box, stuff in trunk to change a tire, including gloves and that's it. She could sell her car today wont have to clean it out, it looks like new.
I used to carry all sorts of stuff, but about 3 years ago my honda was stolen (imagine that
) and i got the car back in perfect condition but they cleaned everything out of it
... but they left my stereo. whatever!
anyway just got the volvo so nothing is in it yet, generally I do carry a flashlight, jumper cables though and chains if i have any that fit the car. Also i will usually have a 'co-pilot' of some sort, right now i believe my honda still has the plushy corgi co-pilot, that i will likely transfer to this car.

currently a battery jump start thing, i left the interior light on and killed my battery. but i want to make sure that's all it was and not a bad battery.
so in the meantime, jump pack is riding with me.
