Unhappy What is wrong with my Jeep???

I decided to take my Jeep to work yesterday, I try to drive it once per week. When I got ready to go run a few errands the thing would not start. It turns over and over and over again but will not start.

I do not hear the fuel pump running so I thought maybe the fuel pump went out. But I thought I should try the relay 1st since it's only $10. I put a new relay in and still nothing.

So I hook up my OBD-II code reader and it can not ready anything. I keeps telling me that it is unable to establish a connection. Tells me to check my cables and try again. Now I think that my ECU is bad, died, or whatever causes them not to work properly.

Anyone have any thoughts?

Sorry to hear that

Could you specify the model & year? Any fault trend on the model?

No initial combustion is probably due to fault in the ignition, fuel or electronic system. If you've changed the fuel pump relay and still don't hear the pump running, I would imagine the pump is shot?

Check to see if you're getting spark.

If you can locate another ECU, preferably at a junk yard, that would be the best way to test it. Or, your scanner may have incompatible protocol (different protocols seem to be used according to which continent you're in).

I'm not familiar with Jeep/Chrysler so wait for others' replies.

I have a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The code reader works with it because I used it before to check a code and clear a code after I fixed a vacuum leak.
